Grateful for Carrboro
2/9/13
i just got back from carrboro and once again i am so grateful for this little town. (ok, chapel hill too...as it does play into the story.) tonight i had the BEST massage with mary rothfuss. no really, the best. i've gotten a lot of massages in my life but she is the best. tmi alert. i felt as though i was going to start my period at any moment...was able to make it into the harris teeter, buy tampons and make it to the toilet just as i begun my period. how awful would it have been to have started (not in the bathroom) and then had a massage?? so fortuitously i was able to get in, purchase and make it to the rest room. BONUS!
well i don't know about you ladies but the first day of my period is the worst. my joints hurt, my back hurts, my legs hurt, i sometimes get headaches, i basically feel like doo doo. well, moments after mine began i was laying comfortably on a massage table with the help of mary's wonderful hands. it's more than just a physical therapy to see Mary. she's just a lovely woman, kind, thoughtful, quirky. she is in her 50's but continues to learn about the human body. every time i've ever seen her she has something new that she is trying, something new she read about, she'll add in chinese cups if she feels that is the best therapy for me at that moment. she'll chat all day, but is still comfortable and sensitive enough to allow us to not talk for long stretches. it was 90 minutes of bliss. i am very grateful for mary.
afterwards i went and caught up with my mom, brian and their friend steve at the orange county social club. serendipitously, as we are getting ready to leave we notice a sign for the chapel hill high school's presentation of dr. horrible's sign a long blog. great poster. hey, it's this weekend, and the last show is tonight. sweet! the show wasn't for a few hours so we went back to steve's to play some crazy 8's. steve has a tiny apartment in an old carrboro house that is creatively decorated with memorabilia from adventures around the world. he has a super old orange and white long haired tabby named spike. spike is totally deaf and his hair lives up to his namesake. oh and i forgot to mention his spunky beagle ralph. ralph's tag says, "i'm ralph, steve's dog."
we leave steve's and run down towards town to grab me a bite to eat. once again i am fortuitous again in the town of carrboro and come across a taco truck on my way to town. i hop out and order a chicken sope. they were nice enough to wrap it up in aluminum foil so i can drive and eat. thanks again carrboro. the chicken in this sope is incredible. my only regret is i didn't buy two...but he had only handed me $3. who carries cash anymore.
we make it to the school play 1/2 an hour early. we thought it started at 7, and even if it did, we still would have been 7 minutes early. we felt silly for rushing. we were even $2 short for 3 tickets but they sold us one student ticket. (the proceeds of the show went to a charity, i'm going to make a donation after this blog. :D)
dr. horrible was played by a senior named adrain thronburg. i think neil patrick harris would have been proud.
once again, an incredible day in carrboro (although the very last part took place just across the tracks in chapel hill. :P)
i had this facebook update on 1/19/13: "I ♥ Carrboro. Saw a group of adults playing 4 square on the bike path & then got to Neal's after they were closed but was welcomed in and made my favorite, their turkey ruben. Thanks Neal's! " just a few more reason's that i love Carrboro.
